Like home. That is how we want the gravely ill children who, because of their current treatment, need to leave their home and move to Barcelona. 

This emergency initiative “Estáis en un lugar seguro” (“You are in a safe place”), starting March 2022, has allowed for 16 Ukrainian children with cancer to continue their treatment in Barcelona and to cover their basic needs while away from war. 

Three years ago, Sandra Cortés was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a bone cancer which she’s suffered in multiple sequels. We’ve talked with her about her experience and everything related to the “good people” she has met on her journey. 

Leire and her parents, Silvia and David, moved into a temporary apartment provided by the Villavecchia Foundation and participated in our program of activities. Additionally, they have supported us with fundraising. Learn about their story. 

Participating in our excursions and activities helped Marta meet other young people with cancer and manage her fears and self-esteem. She tells us so 10 years later, completely recovered from the leukemia she once suffered. 

Like every summer, we have brought various groups of children who have or have had cancer (or other grave illnesses) to the Irish campsite of Barretstown, with the collaboration of the Aladina Foundation. 

Jasmin is 18 years old and was 4 years old when she had a brain tumor operation. She is one of the participants of our program ‘No estás sol@‘ (‘You are not alone’) for young survivors of cancer who have suffered secondary effects due to the illness. 

Supporting people who care for others is one of the Villavecchia Foundation’s priorities in relation to our Volunteering Program, which includes formative and bonding activities.
