We train and support the volunteer team in offering the best attention for our families

Supporting people who care for others is one of the Villavecchia Foundation’s priorities in relation to our Volunteering Program, which includes formative and bonding activities.

In order to provide care for others, volunteers should feel well and feel supported. Because of this, the Villavecchia Foundation offers continuous training, meeting spaces, and self-care workshops that provide tools and advice most optimal for volunteers, and so that children, youth, and families assisted by the Foundation receive the care they need.

“There are a lot of people that don’t think children can also get very ill and die. This reality exists, you can choose to see it or close your eyes, and we have decided to face this reality and are driven to help those who are forced to live it.” This is one of the reflections that Arantxa de Lara, responsible for the Área Assistencial and Volunteering at the Villavecchia Foundation, gave during an initial formative course to the people who want to collaborate with us in becoming a volunteer.

At the Foundation, we understand the training of the volunteer team can be a key tool in implementing adequate parameters in quality. To train not only means to supply information, but also to offer tools, resources, and work spaces to make volunteers capable of providing the necessary care that is asked of them.

The initial training, like the one we completed yesterday, Wednesday, July 6th, is made up of three four-hour sessions, and is free for all participants. Completing this course is an indispensable requirement to form part of the volunteer team at the Villavecchia Foundation, alongside a personal interview.

“The energy that volunteers bring cannot be replaced by anything. The drive and motivation of the volunteers are the human capital of entities that make societal changes possible.” Arantxa de Lara.

Additionally, during the year, various training spaces are organized, optional for our volunteers, with professionals of the Foundation and external guests, with the topic of the sessions varying. Included in this continuous training plan is a self-care session.

“Children never stop being children. Sometimes, the illness prevents us from seeing the child that is behind it. Beyond illness, beyond tracheotomy or beyond the hair loss that comes with cancer treatment, exists a child that never stops being a child. And the volunteers are an indispensable support in this stage.” Arantxa de Lara
