Summer fills with life with the community centers and excursions from the Villavecchia Foundation

17 · July · 2023

Before summer break, we have organized numerous activities for our children and young ones: from an adapted excursion on boat by the Cosa Brava to “casales” (summer houses, community centers) for children who have suffered from a form of cancer.

Enjoying the sea and breeze of Costa Brava allowed the children from groups NESI (‘No Estás Sol@- Infantil’ ; ‘You are Not Alone - Children’) recarcharge this past July 15. On board sailboats, the participants navigated through the coast of Sant Feliu de Guixois after a filling breakfast at Club Náutico with their parents and siblings. Meanwhile the children sailed, the adults were able to share a trip through shore, with the event ending in a family dinner next to the water.

This is one of the various efforts that we have helped take place during July, alongside the excursion for the children in NES (‘No Estás Sol@‘; ‘You are Not Alone’)  to a hostel in Parque del Garraf, where they took on various activities under the full moon.

Like we do every summer, we have invited three groups of children and youth to the camp at Barretstown (Ireland), and in August we will go to Dynamo Camp (Italy) with another group of patients. We have also celebrated the second edition of this inclusive summer casal for survivors of childhood cancer that we assisted the previous year, in collaboration with the Pere Tarrés Foundation and with the Escola Sant Gregori, and through channel TV3 there has been a documentation of the excursion.

”Two days of therapy and two days of going to the summer house. The days at the summer house, the environment is festive and she enjoys it very much.” So the mother of Blanca, Merced de Ros, tells us. Arantxa de Lara, responsible for the care assistance area at the Villavecchia Foundation, reminds us that “happiness is a right. To be sick should not be a negation of the happy times of life.” This is the same objective that drives the activities offered at the Foundation; to provide children who have suffered a form of cancer activities they can enjoy and to help generate positive memories in the company of their families.

We have also organized a visit to the Aquarium of Barcelona for the little ones in active treatment for cancer and an excursion to the amusement park in Tibidabo with the patients’ siblings, who also deserve these shared moments of joy.
