Scholarships offered by the Villavecchia Foundation help form our future pediatrics oncologists.
Our commitment to this formation remains firm: since 2006 we have given out 48 scholarships in the specialization of pediatric oncology and hematology.
This formation of future pediatric specialists remains one of the least-known programs of major impact from the Villavecchia Foundation. The Antoni Negre Villavecchia Foundations help form young medics and researchers who want to dedicate themselves to the oncological and hematological pediatrics. Many of these scholarship recipients already occupy important positions in the biggest hospitals of our country. You might even know some of them! Watch their testimony through this video:
Dr. Pablo Velasco, from Hospital Val d’Hebron, who received our scholarship between 2010 and 2012, tells us, “We are in a moment of expanding the knowledge in pediatric oncology and hematology, which is an encouragement, but also complex.” This is why it is so important that formation is developed in “the best centers for specialization”, which is what the Villavecchia Foundation’s scholarship helps support. “To have a scholarship that helps financially helps you integrate into one of these hospitals is fundamental.”
”Pediatric subspecialties do not exist as such, but this scholarship allows you to develop in one,” Dr. Sònia Brió, current coordinator at UCI Pediatrics of Hospital de Sant Pau, and first scholarship recipient of the Villavecchia Foundation in 2006, tell us. In her words, this scholarship “allows you to gain some income, enter in contact and associate with a hospital, and learn to develop in the field.”
”It is something that the Foundation knows, that without an adequate professional development you cannot adequately care for our children,” explains Dr. Albert Català, who was a recipient of the scholarship between 2006 and 2008, and is currently and adjunct medic o father pediatric hematology unit in Hospital Sant Joan de Déu. “Thanks to this scholarship, I started to develop in the field. It is clear that without their help, it would have been much more complicated.” Also in Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, Dr. Marina Caballero tells us, “This scholarship is not only for us. This scholarship is also for the families and children that will be our future patients.” For the children who have ever had, or will have childhood cancer, the Villavecchia Foundation remains committed to strengthening the formation of medics and research.
