Organizing unforgettable summer experiences
Excitement, smiles, and fun… Like every summer, we make sure that the children are enjoying their childhood as much as possible, making positive memories during their time with illness. Just look at how many excursions we have organized!
We have enjoyed PortAventura for 30 years
This summer we have returned to the theme park with a group of children with grave illnesses thanks to the collaboration with the PortAventura Foundation. Did you know that we have been caring for children with cancer and other grave illnesses for 30 years? Additionally, this park is one of the collaborating entities helping in the creation of the Pabellon de la Victoria (Victoria Pavilion), the children’s hospice that we are building in the heart of Barcelona. ►Watch here.
Summer camp in Montseny
We have offered accommodating summer camp opportunities to children and youth belonging to NES and NESI, who enjoyed a weekend full of games, songs, trips and other activities in the Casa del Aria, in the Parque Natural of Montseny. Offering these spaces of leisure adapted to the needs of the young patients who have suffered from grave illnesses is essential for their emotional, social, physical, and educational wellbeing. As always, we want to foster their independence and motivate them in social settings and participation.
Inclusive waves in the district of Garraf
The group of young cancer survivors at the Foundation have enjoyed surf paddling and other aquatic activities in the beach of Villanova i la Geltru with the support of the SUPerando association. Not all beaches offer adapted activities for the children that are the most ill, who often face obstacles in being able to enjoy the sea. Thanks to the alliance between the Villavecchia Foundation and SUPerando, children with cancer and those who have beaten it and its aftermath can benefit from the fun aquatic activities here.
Artwork with the Vila Casas Foundation.
Apart from sessions of relaxation and youth in the Museum Can Framis for the families of the Villavecchia Foundation, the Vila Casas Foundation has offered artistic visits to the young patients and their families. The program Respir-Arte is designed to offer the caregivers of the children with a time to pause and reflect during tiring day to day, strengthening their emotional health with the union of art and mediation.
Navigating the coast on boat.
This summer, we have made various excursions on boat to the coast of Barcelona with young patients, survivors of child cancer, and their siblings. For many participants, this was their first time at sea.
Returning to Barretstown and Dynamo
Like every summer, we brought various groups of children who have or have had cancer, or other grave illnesses, to the Irish camps of Barretstown and the Dynamo Cap de Italia, with the collaboration of the Acadian Foundation.
Rockclimbing, canoeing, archery, dance, and tie-dying shirts… These are some of the many activities that are offered to the participants in these camps, previously derived by organizations like the Villavecchia Foundation. The week-long stay is especially designed for children and youth who live, or have lived, with a serious illness, and is equipped with a 24-hour medical center and primary care. Their program is praised by outstanding medical professionals and has been recognized internationally for their lasting impact in the lives of children with grave illnesses.
