A Week in the Snow returns: children and youth with cancer enjoy snow-covered Andorra with Fundación Villavecchia

30 · March · 2026

Another year of the tracks of Grandvalira being the stage of this excursion that combines sport, nature, and community.

A group of 30 children and youth with cancer have again been taken to an unforgettable experience in the Week of the Snow, one of the most emblematic annual activities of Fundación Villavecchia.

Coinciding with the arrival of Spring, participants aged 7 to 17 years old (in active treatment or recently-recovered) have been able to enjoy the vast array of curatived activities: skiing, snowmobile rides, chairlift rides, and a tour to the viewpoint of Coll Blanc. This year, as a new activity, we have also incorporated the construction of igloos, which has sparked an enthusiasm in participants and has added a new playful and creative dimension to the excursion.

All of the activities have been organized in groups according to the level of each respective participant and has been adapted to their specific needs, with the coordination of Grandvalira Social and the support of the great volunteer team at Fundación Villavecchia. Additionally, accommodative seats have been able to allow those who could not participate in physical activity to also enjoy the snow and excursion.

The excursion has been made possible, as usual, with the assistance of medical staff team and primary care, as well as the volunteers of the Fundacion, guaranteeing personalized attention and safety for all participants. The group was housed in the Apartamentos Cairbou of Pas de la Casa, a short distance from the tracks, with the necessary accommodations so participants could feel at home, thanks to the collaboration of Grandvalira Social. The children and youth come from the hospitals partnered with the Fundación: San Juan de Dios, San Pablo, and Vall d’Hebron.

The Week in the Snow’s objective is to promote leisure as an essential component of wellbeing to children with grave illnesses, offering them a space of disconnection and new experiences beyond a hospital environment. During these days, the participants are able to feel capable of these activities, share experiences and create bonds with an environment full of fun, relaxation, and smiles.

The whole program has been developed under strict medical supervision to ensure the health and safety of the participants at all times.
