30 children and youth with cancer enjoy the magnificent annual Week in the Snow

08 · April · 2025

The Granvalira tracks in Andorra are the host of another year of exciting activities from the Villavecchia Foundation.

With the beginning of a new spring, we have again invited 30 children and youth aged 7 to 17 that are in active cancer treatment or who have beat the illness. With the collaboration of Grandvalira Social, we have offered participants a grand variety of activities including adapted skiing, excursions on dog-sleds, snowmobile rides, chairlift rides, an exciting trip from Ratrac to the viewpoint at Coll Blanc and other opportunities, with the help of volunteers to help them enjoy these days of (safe) thrills in the snow.

The activities were divided in groups, according to the level of the participant, and were adapted to the needs of each child. Additionally, there was an implementation  of accommodating seats for those who could not participate in physical activity due to the illness or treatment, allowing them to also enjoy the snow.

Like every year, we have relied on the support of our medical and nursing teams, as well as our volunteer team at the Villavecchia Foundation, who are attentive to all of the organizing details of the excursion and are equipped to help assist the needs of each participant.

The group was hosted in the Hotel Cristina (Paso de la Casa), a short distance from the ski tracks, where homely accommodations were offered to help the patients feel at home. The patients derive from three reference hospitals in collaboration with the Villavecchia Foundation: Sant Joan de Deu, Sant Paul, and Vall d’Hebron.

The objective of the Week in the Snow is to offer a time of joy beyond illness, with the understanding that fun and the right to enjoy a time devoid of hospital life is fundamental for a child’s wellbeing. The activity allowed participants to feel capable and confident, and experience a world outside of the hospital, transporting them to an environment full of fun, community, and smiles.

The whole program was realized under strict medical supervision, guaranteeing the safety and wellbeing of every child and youth participant.
