The Solidarity Christmas Market remains one of the biggest fundraising Christmas events in Barcelona

04 · December · 2024

With more than 4,000 visitors and 41.000 euros raised, the market at the Villavecchia Foundation has maintained their stay of four days at Casa Capell, in Gracia.

In slightly surpassing the amount of visitors from last year and fundraising 41.000 euros, the Solidarity Christmas Market has held up in its 13th iteration as one of the biggest fundraising events that keep the care programs for children and youth with cancer and other illnesses at the Villavecchia Foundation running. In this iteration we saw a collaboration with 50 companies and organizations, a team of 110 volunteers and 34 students in education centers, with the coordination of the whole technical team at the Foundation.

Like every year, every minimal detail has been planned out and supported by our volunteer team and, also like every year, the fruit of this labor will be to aid the distinct programs at the Villavecchia Foundation, and to support the families.

We sold many gastronomic products, from special beers, cavas, wines, to salsas, housemade candy, breakfast and entree trays, and other products. The lineup also includes “Sonrisas de Chocolate”, the collaborating solidarity chocolate by Chocolates Torras for the Villavecchia Foundation, with “flor de sal” and extra virgin oil.

There were also products to decorate the home and to gift during the holiday session (provided by collaborating companies); from candles to Christmas decorations, to cosmetics, ceramics, clothes, gifts for younger children, the solidarity doll Keta and natural Christmas products; advent crowns, centerpieces, a diverse range of plants, sustainably made decorations, etc.

The stars of the Bosque Mágico have been designed and realized by the students of 34 education centers: Aspace, Aula, Aula Hospitalària del Hospital Parc Taulí, Aula Hospitalària de Sant Joan de Déu, Acadèmia Central Catalana CECAC, Centre Educatiu FAX, Creu Roja Caldes de Montbui (workshop Vida Activa), Els Menuts de la Pineda, El Petit Sant Ildefons, Escola del Mar, Escola Frederic Mistral – Tècnic Eulàlia, Escola Gavà Mar, Escola Gravi, Escola Horitzó, Escola Hospital Sant Pau, Escola El Nou Patufet, Escola La Salle Palamós, Escola Lleó XIII, Escola Lurdes, Escola Maristes La Immaculada, Escola Pàlcam, Escola Pia Moià, Escola Reina Violant, Escola Sagrat Cor de Sarrià, Escola Sant Josep Gràcia, Escola Sant Josep Gràcia – Fundació Escola Teresiana, Escola Suïssa de Barcelona, Escola Thau Barcelona – CIC, Escola Turó del Cargol, Escola Vedruna Gràcia, Kids&Us Horta Guinardó, Kids&Us Nou Barris, Kids&Us Santa Coloma, and the Lycée Français Bon Soleil de Gavà.

At the same time, the appearance in a great number of different news media has contributed to the great affluence of the public: from Ràdio4 and Catalunya Ràdio to the digital media like TimeOut Barcelona, the Diari de la Discapicitat, Criar . cat o Xarxanet. We have also appeared in numerous digital agendas, like the Turismo de Barcelona, and much more content creations who have recommended us in social media; for example this reel from chef Ada Parellada on Instagram or this video from El Rafa on TikTok. We’d like to thank every single one of those who have helped us in our work at the Foundation.

One of the new additions this year has been one of the stars of “Els Llums de Sant Pau”. This is the first time that one of the Christmas lights of Sant Pau are seen in the recinto modernista, supporting the Villavecchia Foundation with this action, like the starting of reforming the Pabellon de la Victoria, the solidarity concert in Santa Maria del Mar, or the Solidarity Christmas Market.

► If you have not been able to visit the Solidarity Christmas Market, we invite you to visit our thrift ‘solidarity market’ from December 9 to December 18th, organized in the store Natura on Pelayo street of Barcelona; half of the funds raised will go to the support program for childhood cancer survivors at the Villavecchia Foundation, and the other half to Hospital San Joan de Deu.
